Carolyn has been President and Senior Consultant with RedLine since 1996. She has been involved in the supercomputing field for over 20 years, has held numerous technical certifications, and has an intimate knowledge of the processes involved for management and integration of supercomputing systems.
Throughout her career, she has provided technical management, planning, installation, integration, and development services for high-performance computing (HPC) and high availability systems at various customer sites. Carolyn managed several projects, including planning, installation, and management of the systems team and daily operations at the National Center for Environmental Prediction for several IBM supercomputers and associated storage subsystems (including HPSS and TSM).
Prior to RedLine, Carolyn was an Advisory Engineer for HPC systems at Lockheed Martin Federal Systems (formerly IBM). In this role, she led IBM SP System support efforts at customer sites, wrote proposals, assisted with benchmarks and developed parallel applications. She also managed and coordinated resources for Lockheed’s Integrated Supercomputing Lab containing a supercomputer, workstations, file servers and tape archive. As a staff engineer, Carolyn worked closely with customers on system engineering, testing, integration, and support.
Carolyn is a cum laude graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in mathematics. She attended University of Maryland for postgraduate work in applied mathematics. She is a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society.
Don is a veteran of the US Navy where he began his technical career as a data systems technician. Prior to merging his company with RedLine, Don’s primary focus was serving as Team Lead for the IBM technical support and integration team supporting the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Central Computing Systems (CCS). His responsibilities included managing the system administrator team tasked with maintaining 99% system availability, integration of IBM and non-IBM hardware and software to meet NCEP requirements for high-performance computing (HPC), and customer-facing project management. He provided system integration and administration services to NCEP in support of the CCS supercomputers and coordinated on-call support to meet NCEP’s 24/7/365 mission requirements.
Don also led the engineering efforts to implement a new Mid-Tier Unix environment at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). His work included system requirements gathering and analysis, evaluation of candidate vendor solutions via a formal trade study, system design, system integration, and developing procedures for system operations. The system consisted of a multi-terabyte Oracle Data Warehouse, various online transaction processing (OLTP) servers also using Oracle, enterprise storage (EMC and Hitachi) and backup and recovery (Tivoli Storage Manager). Don developed procedures for rapid data movement between isolated development, test, and production environments through the use of EMC TimeFinder. His team achieved the requirement for high availability through the integration of IBM HACMP. His other clients have included the US Treasury – Financial Management Services, Advanced Broadband Solutions, and the University of Maryland, among others.
Don received a BA from the University of Maryland. He holds a number of technical certifications, including IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert (CATE), Tivoli Storage Manager, SP, HACMP, AIX Communications, and AIX Administration.
