Keith Ball, Ph.D.
Senior HPC Engineer
Keith Ball earned his PhD from The University of Chicago with a dissertation on characterizing energy landscapes of small molecules using molecular dynamics, stochastic modeling, and optimization techniques. After working as a postdoctoral researcher on computational protein structure prediction, and in bioinformatics and computational modeling at several biotech firms, he has spent the past ten years as an HPC sales engineer for clients at a variety of Federal agencies, including a number of NASA, NOAA, DOE and DOD supercomputing centers.
Keith’s key experience is in parallel file systems (especially Spectrum Scale (GPFS) and workload management, with a special interest in analytics (Hadoop and Spark) and machine learning. Keith also has experience with supporting a variety of single-host and distributed MPI applications. He is currently exploring Docker container technology and how it can be used to spin up specialized analytics environments in shared compute environments.
